Commemorating the life and legacy of Nahom Berhane, the Nahom Berhane Scholarship for Leadership and Inclusion provides assistance to young people with a proven track record of volunteerism, community service, and leadership in the community, who need financial support to attend graduate school. secondary institution, including universities, colleges, and vocational training. This year we are giving priority to young people of African descent.
The scholarship is made possible through the generosity of
corporations, foundations, and donors.
The Nahom Berhane Scholarship for Leadership and Inclusion
provides assistance to young people with a proven track record of volunteerism,
community service, and leadership in the community. In addition, youth need
financial support to attend a post-secondary institution, including
universities, colleges, and vocational training. This year they are
prioritizing Afro-descendant youth.
The Nahom Berhane Scholarship for Leadership and Inclusion
recognizes youth who have a proven track record of volunteerism, community
service and leadership in GTA. The Scholarship can be redeemed at any level at
post-secondary institutions and can be used at any accredited institution
(college, university, accredited trade schools, or certificate programs).
Applicants must be enrolled or in the process of applying to a Canadian
college, university, trade school, or other institution for the upcoming year on
a full-time basis (as defined by the school).
Profits
The Scholarship disbursement will be paid directly to the
institution to help reduce the cost of registration, up to a maximum of $3,000.
Eligibility
Are registered to attend a post-secondary institution (in
any year)
Be 30 years old or younger on December 31, 2022
Have lived in the GTA for at least 2 years.
Have Canadian citizenship or permanent resident status
(Please note: Applicants who are in the process of applying
as permanent residents and who have documentation from Immigration, Refugees
and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) that allows them to study at a post-secondary
institution may apply. Proof of an application with IRCC will be required. The
scholarship does not fund study by visitors or international students.)
Have a proven history of community involvement/volunteering
They have shown leadership in their community/are community
mobilizers
They are sponsored by a mentor/mentor organization that
agrees to act as a mentor to the applicant for the duration of the fellowship.
Make a positive contribution to the GTA
